Overnight Orange Roll Casserole
Transform a can of refrigerated orange rolls into a show-stopping brunch dish with minimal effort. This overnight casserole soaks bite-sized pieces of sweet orange rolls in a creamy, citrus-infused custard, creating a tender, bread pudding–like texture. As it bakes, the top turns golden and the kitchen fills with the bright aroma of orange and brown sugar. Finish with a dreamy orange glaze for a breakfast or brunch that tastes like something from a bakery.
Ingredients
For the Casserole
2 cans refrigerated orange rolls
¼ cup butter, melted
4 large eggs
⅓ cup heavy cream
⅓ cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Zest and juice of 1 orange
For the Orange Glaze
2 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons orange juice (approx.), divided
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Baking Dish
If baking immediately, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish and tilt the pan to coat the bottom evenly.
Step 2: Cut and Arrange the Rolls
Open the cans of orange rolls and cut each roll into 4 pieces. Arrange the pieces in a single, even layer in the prepared dish.
Tip: Avoid packing them too tightly so the custard can soak into every piece.
Step 3: Make the Custard
In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla, and the zest and juice of one orange until smooth. Pour the mixture evenly over the roll pieces, gently moving them around to ensure everything is well coated.
Step 4: Refrigerate Overnight (Recommended)
Cover the dish tightly with foil and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or up to 12 hours. This resting time allows the rolls to absorb the custard, resulting in a tender, fluffy texture.
Step 5: Bake
When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) if you haven't already. Remove the foil and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set but still soft. Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before glazing.
Step 6: Make the Glaze
While the casserole cools, prepare the glaze. In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of orange juice, melted butter, orange zest, and vanilla. Stir until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add the remaining tablespoon of orange juice, one teaspoon at a time, until it reaches a drizzling consistency.
Step 7: Glaze and Serve
Drizzle the warm glaze generously over the casserole. Serve immediately and enjoy!
