Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 12–15 minutes (baking) or 4–6 minutes (frying)
Total Time: 35 minutes
Servings: 4
Difficulty: Beginner–Intermediate
Ingredients
For the Cilantro Lime Yogurt Dip
¾ cup whole milk Greek yogurt
2½ tablespoons finely chopped fresh cilantro
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1½ teaspoons honey
¼ teaspoon chipotle pepper (optional, for heat)
For the Crispy Avocado Fries
2 large avocados (about 8.5 oz each), firm but just ripe
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 large eggs, beaten
1⅓ cups panko bread crumbs
For Cooking
2 cups vegetable oil (for frying) or cooking spray (for baking)
Instructions
1. Make the dip
In a small bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, cilantro, lime juice, garlic, honey, and chipotle (if using) until smooth and well combined. Cover and refrigerate until serving. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
2. Prepare the avocados
Slice the avocados in half lengthwise and remove the pits. Carefully peel off the skin, then cut each half into ½-inch thick wedges. Set aside.
3. Set up your dredging station
Arrange three shallow bowls in a row:
Bowl 1: Flour mixed with cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
Bowl 2: Beaten eggs.
Bowl 3: Panko bread crumbs.
4. Coat the avocado wedges
Working with one wedge at a time, dredge each avocado piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten egg, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, press it into the panko crumbs, coating thoroughly and gently pressing to help the crumbs adhere. Place the coated wedges on a plate or baking sheet and repeat with the remaining avocado.
5. Choose your cooking method
Baking Option (Healthier):
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Place the coated avocado wedges on a greased baking sheet in a single layer.
Lightly spray the tops with cooking oil to help them crisp up.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Frying Option (Classic):
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, fry the wedges for 1 to 2 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
6. Season and serve
While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with an extra pinch of salt. Serve immediately with the chilled cilantro lime yogurt dip on the side for the ultimate "artisan" snack experience.
Variations & Tips
Choose ripe but firm avocados: They should yield slightly to gentle pressure but not be mushy. Overripe avocados will fall apart during coating.
Make it gluten-free: Use gluten-free flour and gluten-free panko bread crumbs.
Add extra heat: Increase the chipotle pepper in the dip or add a pinch of cayenne to the flour mixture.
Air fryer method: Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 8–10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
Double-dip for extra crunch: For an even thicker crust, repeat the egg and panko steps before cooking.
Serving suggestion: These fries are also delicious with a squeeze of fresh lime juice or a sprinkle of flaky sea salt.
Storage
Refrigerator: The dip can be made up to 2 days in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Leftover fries: Avocado fries are best enjoyed fresh. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 day but will lose their crispiness.
Reheating: Reheat in a 400°F oven or air fryer for 3–5 minutes to restore some crunch. Avoid microwaving.
Enjoy these crispy, creamy, crave-worthy avocado fries—perfect for dipping, sharing, and savoring!
