Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf

This recipe takes the bold, savory flavors of a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and wraps them up in a comforting meatloaf. Juicy ground beef meets sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms, all layered and topped with melted provolone cheese. It's a hearty, cheesy dinner the whole family will love. Serve it with mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, or stuff the leftovers into a hoagie roll for the ultimate sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef (85/15 recommended)

  • 1 green bell pepper – diced

  • 1 onion – diced

  • 1 cup mushrooms – chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic – minced

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1½ cups breadcrumbs

  • 2 eggs – lightly beaten

  • ½ cup milk

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 8 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

1. Prep the vegetables

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, and garlic. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

2. Mix the meatloaf

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Add the cooled sautéed vegetables and mix until evenly combined.

3. Assemble the meatloaf

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

  • Press half of the meat mixture into the bottom of the pan.

  • Layer with 4 slices of provolone cheese.

  • Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing down gently.

  • Place the remaining 4 slices of provolone cheese on top.

4. Bake

Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
