My sister showed me this genius dessert trick. Just 4 ingredients. Make sweet mini foil-wrapped parcels and stack them high so everyone goes crazy guessing what is baking inside.

Slow Cooker Churro Bites (Foil Parcels)

There's nothing quite like the taste of a fairground churro, but sometimes you want the flavor without the hassle of deep frying. This clever slow cooker trick, shared by my sister, delivers all the warm, cinnamon-sugar goodness with minimal fuss and almost no cleanup. We simply tuck bite-sized pieces of sweet dough into individual foil parcels and let them steam-bake in the crock while the whole house fills with that magical, fairground aroma. Made with just four everyday ingredients, these little parcels remind me of the resourceful potlucks where simple pantry staples were turned into something truly special.

Serve these warm bites straight from the slow cooker in their foil wrappers for a fun, interactive dessert. Set out small bowls of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce for dipping. They're perfect with coffee after a Sunday dinner or with hot cocoa on a cool evening. Just put the slow cooker in the middle of the table, lift the lid, and let everyone grab a parcel with tongs—half the joy is in the unwrapping!

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes

  • Cook Time: 1.5 to 3.5 hours (see note below)

  • Servings: 6–8

Ingredients

  • For the Dough:

    • 1 (16 oz) tube refrigerated biscuit dough (like Grands!)

    • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

  • For the Cinnamon-Sugar:

    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, divided

    • 2 tsp ground cinnamon, divided

  • For Assembly:

    • Aluminum foil

    • Optional: Vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Slow Cooker: Line the bottom and about 2 inches up the sides of your slow cooker crock with a large sheet of aluminum foil. This will catch any buttery drips and make cleanup a breeze. If your slow cooker tends to stick, give the foil a light mist of non-stick spray.

  2. Make the Cinnamon-Sugar Mixes:

    • In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup of the sugar and 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon. This is your "inside" coating.

    • In a separate small bowl, combine the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set this aside for the final dusting.

  3. Prepare the Dough: Separate the biscuits and place them on a cutting board. Use a sharp knife or kitchen shears to cut each biscuit into 4 equal, bite-sized pieces.

  4. Coat the Dough: Working in batches, dip a few dough pieces into the melted butter, letting any excess drip off. Then, roll them in the first bowl of cinnamon-sugar (the "inside" coating) until evenly covered.

  5. Assemble the Parcels: Tear off sheets of aluminum foil, roughly 6x6 inches square. Place 4-6 coated dough pieces in the center of a foil square, leaving a little space between them for expansion. Loosely fold the foil up and over the dough, pinching the seams to create a sealed packet with a small air pocket inside. Don't wrap it tightly. Repeat with the remaining dough, butter, and "inside" cinnamon-sugar.

  6. Cook: Stack the foil parcels gently in the prepared slow cooker. It's fine to layer them, just don't pack them down. Cover and cook until the dough is cooked through and no longer doughy in the center.

    • Cook on HIGH for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

    • Cook on LOW for 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

    • Tip: If you're unsure, carefully open one center parcel and test a bite with a fork.

  7. Finish & Serve: Once cooked, turn off the slow cooker. Using tongs or oven mitts, carefully open each foil parcel just enough to expose the tops of the churro bites (be careful of the hot steam!). If the remaining melted butter has firmed up, give it a quick stir. Brush or drizzle a little of it over the exposed tops, then sprinkle generously with the reserved "final dusting" cinnamon-sugar.

  8. Serve Warm: Leave the slow cooker lid off for 5-10 minutes to let the topping set slightly. Serve the bites warm, right from the slow cooker in their foil parcels, so everyone can unwrap their own sweet treat.

Recipe Tips & Variations

  • Cook Time Note: Cooking times can vary between slow cookers. Start checking at the earlier end of the suggested time range.

  • Richer Flavor: For a deeper, caramel-like flavor, use half brown sugar and half granulated sugar in your cinnamon-sugar mixes.

  • Vanilla Hint: Stir 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the melted butter before dipping the dough.

  • Chocolate Surprise: Tuck a few mini chocolate chips into the center of each parcel along with the dough bites for a molten chocolate center.

  • For a Crisper Top: If you prefer a slightly crunchy exterior, open the foil parcels after cooking and place the bites on a baking sheet. Broil for 1-2 minutes (watch closely!) before returning them to the slow cooker to keep warm.

  • Keeping Warm: To keep these on a buffet without the topping getting soggy, place a clean kitchen towel under the slow cooker lid to absorb condensation.
