Joe’s Crab Shack-Style Crab Dip Recipe

This creamy, cheesy crab dip is a warm, comforting appetizer inspired by the beloved version from Joe’s Crab Shack. Loaded with tender lumps of crab and a rich, savory base, it comes together quickly and bakes to golden, bubbly perfection. Perfect for parties, game day spreads, or any casual get-together.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • ½ cup sour cream

  • 1 cup lump crab meat, picked over for shells

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • ½ teaspoon paprika

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

  • Toasted bread slices, crackers, or tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

  2. Prepare the base: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with a spoon or spatula until smooth and creamy. Add the mayonnaise and sour cream, and mix until well combined.

  3. Add seasonings and cheese: Stir in the minced garlic, lemon juice, paprika, black pepper, cheddar cheese, and Parmesan until evenly incorporated.

  4. Fold in the crab: Gently fold in the lump crab meat, being careful not to break up the chunks. This keeps those delicious bites of crab intact.

  5. Bake: Transfer the mixture to a small oven-safe baking dish (such as a 1-quart casserole dish or several smaller ramekins) and spread it evenly. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the dip is hot, bubbly, and lightly golden on top.

  6. Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped green onions. Serve warm with your choice of toasted bread, crackers, or tortilla chips.
